Welcome to the Aftershock Sew Along! I am so excited you're here! My goal for this sew along is for it to be laid-back and fun!
The Aftershock quilt pattern can be found in the Wren Collective pattern shop. Click here!
This week is all about selecting fabric for the sew along. If you have not yet selected your fabric, do not worry! There are several shops kitting bundles/kits of Aftershock and I will make sure to link them in this blog post.
What to Keep in Mind When Selecting Fabrics
Aftershock does work well with a variety of fabrics and colors. Scrappy, ombre, rainbow, etc. There are so many awesome ways to make this quilt! The one thing to keep in mind is if using prints, non-directional prints do work best for ease of construction, though directional prints can definitely also be used.
If using directional prints, you will just need to be mindful when constructing a couple of the blocks if you want all of your directional fabric facing the same way. (This is detailed a bit more in the pattern). You will notice that I have a directional print in my fabric pull, so I will be demonstrating how it will work as we go along.
Since the largest block in each row is a pretty good size, large-scale prints also work well. There are even some great fussy-cutting opportunities here!
Aftershock modification
I have chosen to make a modified Aftershock for the sew along. Instead of 7 fabrics for the color blocks, this modification uses 14 fabrics. I wrote a blog post outlining how to modify Aftershock in case you also want to make a similar version. You can find it by clicking here.
Most of these fabrics are from a bundle I purchased from Cottoneer; I swapped out one of the Fat Quarters and then I added some Dusty Rose chambray as my background. The bundle can be found by clicking here.
