Ivy League Quilt: The Sonata Blog Tour

Note: the pattern for Ivy League quilt can be found in the Wren Collective pattern shop.

Introducing the Ivy League quilt! This is the first quilt pattern offered from Wren Collective, so it has an extra special place in my heart.

A Little Background

I have been such a huge fan of Amy Sinibaldi since I started quilting, so I was beyond thrilled when she asked me to be part of her showcase for her latest line, Sonata. There isn’t a line of Amy’s that I don’t absolutely adore, and this is no exception. Plus, it makes my inner band geek super happy. I played the flute for several years growing up in the concert, marching, and pep bands.

The fabrics I chose for my project are so soft and dreamy! From left to right: Ink Light, Josephine Classic, Josephine Poetic, Edelweiss Joy, Edelweiss Ode, Floral No. 9 Bold, and Ink Thunder. Not pictured below but used at the top of my quilt for the lightest color gradient was Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Elements Solid in Sweet Macadamia.

The Inspiration Behind Ivy League Quilt

I decided to make a simple triangle throw quilt (I can never resist a good triangle quilt!) that kind of reminds me of cozy argyle socks. Nerd alert, I know. I really do love how the light-to-dark gradient turned out.

The biggest challenge I encountered while making this was deciding on a fabric for the back. A tiny voice in my head kept saying “Rach, that red-orange floral from the Sonata line could be pretty awesome!” Then a much louder, rational voice in my head said “Ummmmm….whoa. That’s bold. Calm down, woman!”

After a couple glasses of wine, I decided to listen to the tiny voice in my head (she’s fun—I like her) and ordered this backing from Cottoneer. Here are some photos of my final project for this Sonata Showcase:

That pop of red from the back is just SO fun! Also, I’m really going to miss this bedroom when we move to Omaha. That pop of red from the back is just SO fun! I haven’t quite mastered the quilt chair drape yet. I’m trying. I’m probably trying too hard. Edited to add : I’ve gotten some emails asking where this chair and plant stand are from. Amazon! This is the chair pictured above, and here is the link for the plant stand. The snake plant is also from Amazon, believe it or not. Here is a link to the plant.

Kelsey! Thank you so much for reading my blog! That means a lot! That's so awesome you also played the flute. I still have mine at my parent's house. Maybe someday Wren will want to play it--who knows!

Hey there!

Rachel from Wren Collective

Welcome to Wren Collective. I’m so excited that you decided to stop by! I am a modern quilter based in Omaha, Nebraska. Besides quilting, I enjoy family movie nights, reading mystery novels, and waking up early to a quiet house. In my spare time, you can usually find me microwaving coffee from earlier in the morning and lint rolling thread off of my pants.
