The Aftershock sew along begins August 2, 2021! This is the first sew along I've ever hosted, and I could not be more excited!
This casual sew along will take place virtually; people from all over the globe have been signing up which will make things really fun!
I have personally participated in several sew alongs over the years, and I've found that sewing alongside others is really motivating, and I tend to actually FINISH the quilt! (I can't be the only one with a giant pile of WIPs...right??)
There will be weekly prizes for those who post their progress on Instagram using the #aftershockSA hashtag!
Dates: August 2, 2021 - September 12, 2021
This sew along will last six weeks and will be pretty laid-back. A catch up week is included in the six week period. Use it to either get caught up or take the week off!
How to follow along
Sign up for the weekly emails (will go out every Monday during the sew along)
Follow along on Instagram using the #aftershockSA hashtag (posting under that hashtag each week is how you will enter yourself to win prizes!)
A new blog post will go live each Monday morning of the sew along
supply list
A copy of the Aftershock quilt pattern (pattern is on sale until the start of the sew along)
Below you will find the fabric requirements for both the multi-color and two-color versions.
Week One - SELECTING FABRIC
Selecting fabric will be the theme of week one! To be entered to win the prizes for week one, just post a photo of your fabric pull or color inspiration on Instagram using the hashtag #AftershockSA
The prizes for week one include a $50 gift card to Lamb and Loom fabrics as well as the Color of Connection PDF pattern!
WEEK TWO - CUTTING FABRIC
Cutting fabric begins August 9, 2021. When you post to Instagram using the hashtag #AftershockSA, you will be entered to win the Sewn Home Series bundle from Sewn Handmade and an Olfa endurance rotary cutter blade!
WEEK THREE - ASSEMBLE BLOCKS
This week is block assembly week! Chain piecing makes block assembly a SNAP! You will be done way quicker than you thought you might be.
When you post to Instagram using the hashtag #AftershockSA, you will be entered to win a shirt of your choice from Noodle and Bee and a PDF pattern from Ruth and Esther to make the pouches seen below.
WEEK FOUR - ASSEMBLE ROWS
This week is spent assembling Aftershock rows. Chain piecing makes these blocks come together in a snap! The winner of Week Four will win fabric magnets from Maechen Marie, a fat quarter fabric bundle from Ollie Fabrics, and a PDF copy of Strawberry Creek Quilts' newest pattern, Redwood Coast. Prizes are shown below.
Week five - catch up week!
If you've found that you're a bit behind by this point, have no fear! Take this week to catch up on block assembly and/or row assembly. If you're caught up by now, then feel free to take a breather (or power through and finish your top early!) Prizes up for grabs this week are the new Butterscotch and Taffy PDF quilt patterns from Coral and Co as well as a fabric bundle from Sarah Made. Photos of the prizes can be seen below.
WEEK SIX - Finish your quilt top
Post your finished quilt top to instagram using the hashtag #AftershockSA and be entered to win the grand prize - a $100 gift card to a quilt shop of your choosing from me!
In addition to all of these amazing prizes, several members of the Longarm League are offering 20% off edge-to-edge quilting on any Aftershock top (through November 2021). How awesome is that?!

So this will be my first sew along. Will it be live? If so, what time? How long? Will it be Zoom? You probably will answer these questions over time. I just am curious. I’m really looking forward to it!

Hi Shelley!
It will be all virtual, primarily hosted on Instagram (posting to IG is how you enter to win the prizes.) There will be a weekly email and blog post as well. I may go live on Instagram at some point during the sew along, too!
Rebecca says
Am excited for this SAL, the prizes sound fun! Will you be posting recommended fabric yardage?
WrenCollectiveQuilts says
Hi Rebecca!
The post has been edited to include fabric requirements. Hope this helps!
Theresa Erickson says
Hello, I am new to quilting and never done one of these, question do I have to buy the fabric that is on the picture, or can I go to a store near me to select fabric?
Blessings,
Theresa
WrenCollectiveQuilts says
Hi Theresa!
You may use whatever fabric you would like!
Sam says
If I have a private IG is it still possible to participate in the sew along?
WrenCollectiveQuilts says
Hi Sam!
That would be just fine. I can always add you in before selecting the weekly winner if you just send me a DM with a screenshot of your post. Not a problem at all!
